Job Description- Part Time Communications Manager

The luggage store’s programs are dedicated to broadening social and aesthetic networks, encouraging the flow of images and ideas between different cultural and economic communities. With three venues: 1007 Market Street, 509 Ellis Street and Cohen Alley; our multidisciplinary programs reflect the demographics of the Tenderloin/6th Street Corridor and the Bay Area…

We present/produce approximately 10 exhibitions annually, an annual two day free to the public In the Street festival featuring over 40 groups; the Cohen Alley Project (an ongoing public art project), weekly Creative Music Thursdays, experimental/improvisation/electronic music series, a weekly Tuesday open mike/workshop for comedy; a weekly recovery group for men of color-Men in Motion, in addition to numerous other performances, lectures/ discussions, community events and benefits.

Part Time Position, salary commensurate with experience to $18,000
Overtime occasionally required…This is a newly created position.
(Position funded for at least 2 years)

To be directly supervised by Co-Directors Laurie Lazer and/or Darryl Smith
. Responsibilities will include :

-To develop and distribute press releases
-To assemble and distribute press packets
-To oversee the expansion and maintenance of the Website
-To update and maintain our e-mail and direct mail databases
-To oversee the design and distribution of all direct mailing pieces.
-To design and conduct effective e-mail promotional campaigns
-To communicate with our collectors about which pieces are currently available for purchase
-To recruit and organize volunteers to serve as gallery sitters and to staff receptions and
To sit the gallery as necessary.

Skills Required:
Word, Filemaker Pro, Excel, Photopshop, Internet, type 40 wpm, good communication/interpersonal skills, organized, self starter, small office environment/crowded, and sometimes hectic, ability to work under deadline,
