"Come Across" brings two young emerging Berlin based artists to San Francisco’s luggage store and features a film by AMY PATTON and a video and sound work by GAËLLE BOUCAND. Both Patton and Boucand meticulously craft moving image and sound that appear to be half-forgotten and unexplained relics from another time, to be rediscovered by the viewer. The embedded narratives, whether dictated or implied, leave gaps and missing information.

Gäelle's Boucand’s video, "Berliner Bildstörung” is comprised of Images taken at West Berlin's Zoologischer Garten Zoo, yet is empty of people and animals. The spaces shown in the video seem deserted. The soundtrack combines white noise and intermittent animal sounds. The juxtaposition between the empty scenery and the broken noise is intended to create a strange, dated tension.

Amy Patton’s
"Chronicle of a Demise," uses what she describes as “doubtful, untrustworthy narrative voices” and “invisible, unnamed protagonists” to construct an uncommon relationship between image and narrative. The footage seems old and tampered-with. Patton shot her own "found footage" on a Bolex in Hamburg, East Berlin's Tierpark Zoo, and Hutto, Texas.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Gäelle Boucand (French, lives and works in Berlin) studied at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux Arts of Paris, and completed a six-month residency at Cooper Union in New York as a part of her studies. Her work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions throughout France as well as in Italy, Switzerland, Germany, and in New York. Gaelle will be returning to Paris this coming fall to participate in the Palais de Tokyo's residency program at Le Pavillon.

Amy Patton (American, lives and works in Berlin) began her art practice while studying Art History at the University of Texas at Austin, and completed her graduate work in Experimental Film and Media Design at the University of the Arts in Berlin, where she studied under Stan Douglas. Her work has been shown in Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and the United States.

ABOUT THE CURATOR
Christina Linden recently returned to the bay area after a year spent working in Berlin and in Leipzig, Germany at the Pierogi Gallery. She studied Art History and Fine Arts at New York University and will be starting work on her Master's Degree at Bard College's Center for Curatorial Studies in the Fall of 2007.
